On 26 February 2024, provisions on the technical ship management agreement were introduced into the Code of Merchant Shipping of Russia and the Code of Inland Water Transport of Russia.
In accordance with this agreement, the shipowner can entrust the technical management of the vessel to another company. The concepts of “technical ship management” and “technical manager” appeared in the legislation; the content of the agreement and the conditions for paying remuneration to the manager were determined.
The Russian government determines the requirements for a technical manager.
The new provisions come into force on 1 September 2024.
